Helpful tips to keep your landscape beautiful!
Sometimes it helps to have a couple tips from the professionals. This page is dedicated to helping homeowners achieve optimal results with their new landscape. Or to help maintain an existing landscape.
Watering Tips
Grass seed
To properly water new grass seed, it's crucial to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during the germination period. This typically involves multiple light waterings throughout the day, potentially 2-4 times a day for 5-10 minutes per session, depending on weather conditions. The goal is to prevent the seed from drying out, which can hinder germination.
New sod
Watering new sod requires consistent moisture to help it establish roots, but avoid overwatering. Initially, water thoroughly to moisten the sod and soil. For the first week or two, water frequently (2-3 times a day) to keep the sod moist, then gradually reduce the frequency as the sod establishes roots.
New plants
Water new plants deeply and regularly, especially in the first few weeks, to help their roots establish. Consistent moisture is key, but avoid overwatering. Check the soil moisture regularly and adjust watering frequency based on weather and plant type.
New trees
For the first couple of weeks, water daily, then adjust to every 2-3 days for the next few months, and eventually to once a week. Always check soil moisture before watering to avoid over or under-watering. Watering should be done deeply and infrequently, encouraging roots to grow down into the soil rather than shallowly.
Brick paver care
Regular sweeping
Sweep your brick pavers frequently to remove loose dirt, leaves, and other debris that can accumulate. This prevents staining and keeps the pavers looking clean.
Gentle cleaning
For a deeper clean, use a gentle cleanser like dish soap and water or a cleaner specifically designed for pavers. Avoid harsh chemicals or wire brushes that can damage the pavers.
Power washing (occasional)
A power washer can be used for a more thorough cleaning, but use a low-pressure setting to avoid damaging the pavers or dislodging the joint sand. It's best to power wash in the spring and fall.
Address issues promptly
Fix any loose or cracked pavers as soon as possible to prevent them from becoming major problems.
